What did this man do?

Our former Pastor Jim and his wife Irene were visting the big Island, and we joined them for lunch. We chatted about the “old times” and they talked about his health problems, many of which started after they moved to Virginia to follow her job. “What do you think the link between all my health problems and moving to Virginia were?” he asked. I thought my answer (to the ordained Lutheran minister) was quite inspired: “You are 81 years old. You are enjoying a vacation here in Hawaii, having travelled 2000 miles to get here. You are in generally good health. You are of sound mind. You are alive and well to demonstrate the glory of God, having overcome numerous and varied health problems.

And I referenced John 9:2-3.

John 9:2-3: …And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

We had a lovely visit. We enjoyed talking about the old times, and the good times to come. And Jim, 81, and still traveling the world, in good mind, decent health and with wit intact….demonstrated the glory of God.
