…but…..today was delicous….without him.
We always shop together when we decide to go to the Kona side. It usually involves going to the beach for a few hours in the morning, then doing the Costco run after that…then the two hour ride home.
But he is up to his eyeballs in 2 x 4’s, romex wire and copper pipe….putting in the new bathroom in the guest house. When he gets involved in that kind of a project, he doesn’t like to do frivolous things like sitting on a beach….
So I went to Kona myself. I went to 2 (TWO!!!) thrift stores and looked at EVERY book…..(and bought a few.) I went to Ross and looked through EVERY clearance rack (and bought him 3 new pairs of slacks…to replace the 10 and 15 year old ones in his closet…..). I went to the Habitat for Humanity Re-store and found 2 new ceiling fans for upstairs…..
I did the Costco thing.
And best of all….I listened to Talk of the Nation. And Fresh Air. And All Things Considered. Loud. Without interruption. I love my husband….but he cannot abide to just sit in a car and listen to the radio. I, on the other hand, am a very auditory learner….and if a story catches my ear, I can’t help but want to listen to the whole thing. It makes for some very frustrating rides: just as the commentator gets to a critical point in the story……DH (who hasn’t been listening, and has no idea that I have been…..) starts a whole new conversation, and I am caught between the radio and DH…..
……great theme about animals on Fresh Air today…
