MatthewMarkLukeJohnActsRomans…..
It went through my mind as I had a small panic attack at the lecturn this morning. Our church in Elko once had used a Sunday School program from Faith Inkubators (F.I.N.K.). Part of that program was a song called “New Testament Rap.”
It was a way to teach youngsters the books of the New Testament in order: Matthew Mark Luke John Acts Romans First and Second Corinthians. Galatians Ephesians Phillipians Colossians. 1, 2 Thessalonians 2 Timothys and a Titus. And Philemon and Hebrews and James and Peter One and Two. And Three from John and one from Jude and Revelations ends it, Dude! New Testament. Gonna memorize it cold!
I was the lector today. The readings are ALWAYS printed on the back page of the bulletin. In small print. When I know that I am reading, I go to Textweek.com and print the readings….in LARGE print….so I can read comfortably.
I worked a few hours of overtime this week, though, and was “foggy” and forgot to print the text. And the second reading was NOT printed in the bulletin. There was only a notice: “Romans 8:22-27-Not Printed.”
Nancy, the assistant minister saw my panic, realized the problem, and went and fetched a Bible from the front pew. I took it and as I thumbed through the pages, the song ran through my head: “Matthew Mark Luke John Acts Romans….ROMANS!
I am the first to admit that I didn’t like the FINK program. I found it juvenile and silly.
But, boy, am I glad I learned the New Testament Rap.
Gonna memorize it. Cold.
