I Lift My Eyes Up

MS needed to fly back to the mainland last night to attend her grandmother’s funeral.  I said a prayer for safe travel, and one of thanksgiving for her grandmother’s life, which then led to a reflection of lives that come and go….and the ebb and flow of events within each life.

Certainly we have had copious “comings and goings” of our own this year, and our lives now bear little resemblance to our prior lives, and yet still the underlying current remains.  God is in charge. He did watch, is watching and continues to watch over our comings and goings. Pastor Randy made the point during his sermon yesterday that the word “repent” in the Gospel reading (Mark 1: 14-20) is read in the Greek as “continue to keep repenting”–and that it implies that we both look back and reflect on our wrongs, and look forward to the forgiveness that is ours as promised by God.

And this morning I woke with the words of Psalm 121 on my lips.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Rest in peace, Tutu, and travel safely Cassie…..
