“Don’t you dare throw that out there!” My husband looked aghast as I rolled down the window and prepared to throw a half-eaten chicken bone out the window onto the ranchland as we rode up the driveway (on our own property, I might add!).
He continued…. “A coyote might choke on it!” I could envision his mother (and mine, and probably yours…) with her hands on her hips lecturing about the possibility of chicken bones getting caught in some poor animal’s throat, and the thought made me laugh out loud. Do coyote mothers warn their pups away from chicken bones? “GRRRR….don’t eat that or you’ll choke!” Do bobcat moms swat the bones away from their kittens? Do hawk mommies teach their chicks not to prey on other birds due to the risk of choking?
How often do we turn away God’s wonderful gifts because we don’t recognize them? ACTS 10: 13-15: “And there came a voice to him, ‘Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.’ But Peter said, ‘Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.’ And the voice spake unto him again the second time, ‘What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.’”
Throw me a bone, Lord!!
