It’s all Steve’s fault

*******GRAPHIC DISCUSSION BELOW******** They left me: DS and DDIL. They moved back to the mainland, citing electric costs here. So, I’ve been depressed, sad and moping. Last night I got ill. Really ill. To the point that DH was trying to call 911. I woke at 1:30 am with urinary urgency and abdominal cramps.  On the toilet, I tried to pass stool, but couldn’t, and as I sat there, I became more syncopal by the Continue reading

It’s A God Thing

Last summer, I realized that Susan had been on my mind for days.  Normally we spoke by phone every month or so, but we hadn’t for several months.  I emailed just to let her know that I was thinking about her, and that she and her family were in our prayers. She replied, telling me about the crisis that had erupted in her life, and she praised God for “letting me know” by putting her Continue reading

Gehenna

I have mentioned before about the stark line dividing “wet” Hawaii from “dry.”  Green, verdant hills covered with lush grasses on the east give way parched, arid land on the west. Parker Ranch is one of the largest cattle ranches in the country, and it spans thousands of acres….on both sides of the “line.” On our return trip from  the Kohala coast beach yesterday, we traveled through Parker Ranch land and saw that huddled together Continue reading

…..nevermind

"Crackpipe"....

Those who remember the old Saturday Night Live will remember the “Emily” line. It was one I said today. Today we went to the beach, and while DH used the facilities, I waited by a picnic table. On the ground there, I found a beautiful blown glass wine bottle stopper.  “What a shame,” I thought, “it’s filled with all this black sand.”  I spent a few seconds trying to dig out the sand, then put Continue reading

Bubbles

DH has been after me to do something about it.  “It” being all the fruit. Papaya, strawberry guava, lilikoi (passionfruit),guava, pineapple, citrus, jaboticoba, banana. It’s falling and making a mess all over the lawn. We can’t keep up with it, and like tomato and zucchini time in the midwest, friends avoid us when they see us carrying bags of the surplus. “Why don’t you make some wine?” he asked. So, some research, $50 in supplies Continue reading

A rude awakening

It happens occasionally. There I am, happily showering, when I look down and there is a centipede, sharing my bathtub. Today he was a big one-7″.  I admit it….I screeched. Loudly.  I had just finished rinsing the shampoo from my hair, and noticed the movement out of the corner of my eye. DH, easily spooked, leaped out of bed at the sound of my hollering, and bravely (and demonstrating his love for me…) pulverized it Continue reading

The thing is dead…

The “thing” being my fancy new…only 3 month old….smart Palm Pre Plus phone. It was resting quietly on its charging dock downstairs. It rang once, and I went down to see what call I had missed. Numbers were spontaneously dialing and then disconnecting…..screens were opening and then closing again. It went into airplane mode, and the screen would not respond to my touch. It was having seizures…. I removed the battery and rebooted. The touchscreen Continue reading

Steve, this blogs for you!

CIMG0003

“Interestingly done. Cables strung, fabric sandwiched between wood strips, wood strips eye-hooked to cables”……. great minds and all that….

In a rut

Not us, of course. I’m talking about our neighbors, the cows. The “next door” property is 20 acres of fenced land covered with cane grass. The owner leases the land to a rancher for pasture.  Cane grass is thick, clumped and grows to eight feet tall, but when mowed, becomes a nice lawn. When the  rancher moved four cattle to the land, they started eating the fringe of the property where the owner had already Continue reading

Still crazy, after all these years

I first started doing it when i was seventeen. Church services on Wednesday night, Sunday morning and Sunday night. Later, in a bar 5 or 6 nights a week. Years of weekend gigs and weddings at the Elks, or Moose…or VFW halls. Followed by years of leading a church band. And filling in for the “real” church organist for vacation and weekends off. So after 40…..yes, forty!….years of playing the organ in various venues, why Continue reading
