Mother Nature at work….

Susan and Kris came here three years ago, and Christie and Brion one year ago. As part of our typical “Big Island tour” we took them on a walk to Kaimu beach:  this is the newest black sand beach on Hawaii, created when Kilauea volcano overran the town and beach at Kalapana.  At both visits the beach looked like this:

….though the water was always too rough for our comfort, the beach itself was a gentle slope to the water, with fine black grains.  ‘

We took a walk there yesterday. There is NO beach.  The entire shore has eroded (or fallen into the ocean…) and now is one long cliff:
