Combo Tea

Well, it’s a diet thing……..can’t drink coffee without cream and sugar, but Grandma R taught me to drink my tea black. So, when trying to lose weight, I give up coffee for tea.  We found a hole-in-the-wall restaurant today, tucked in the back alleys of Hilo. And this place-“Garden Snack Club“-serves not only Thai recipes I haven’t seen anywhere else, they served this “combo tea.”  “Do you sell teabags, or loose tea?!” I asked excitedly after tasting it. “No, it’s just steeped ginger, tumeric and lemongrass” was the reply.

So here’s our take on it:

1 liter water

2 shavings of fresh ginger

1 tsp tumeric (1 tsp dry mustard can substitute)

5-10 stalks of lemongrass (just happened to have some growing in the garden….)

Bring to boil, then simmer till desired taste.

May use sweetening (but I prefer not to…..)
